Gebreye is a 13 episode TV series historical Fiction Drama. At the time when Ethiopia was divided into small kingdoms ruled by princes, Emperor Tewodros’ who ruled in Ethiopia from 1855-68 trusted general and friend Gebreye, lost his father when he was killed by the noblemen of the area. Gebreye became a rebel for this reason, while Tewodros (Kassa) also became rebel because of the unjust rule of the princes. This brought the two together when they were young men. This was a lifelong friendship, and this story is about that friendship.​

This series was filmed in the city of Gondar and the town of Debre Tabor. Several shoots were filmed in the ancient churches of Gondar and in the palace of king Faisiledas.
